## The day the most famous formula was published – level 3

27-09-1905

In 1905, Albert Einstein was a young man working for the Swiss Patent Office. He also worked on his theories about the laws of the universe.

On September 27, Einstein published his most famous formula, E=mc². The formula says that energy is equal to the mass of an object times the speed of light squared. It means that a small amount of mass corresponds to an enormous amount of energy.

This formula was later used for the creation of an atomic bomb.

Difficult words: formula (a series of letters and numbers that represent a scientific law), equal (the same as), mass (how heavy something is), times (multiplied by), squared (when one number is multiplied by the same number, for example, 2 × 2).
